Food Hood
FAQ Food Hoods - Reusable Bowl Covers
In contrast to beeswax wraps, our bowl hoods are vegan, everlasting and machine washable. If the covers are dirty, you can wipe them out, or simply throw them into the washing machine at 30 degrees. The durability of beeswax tissues is about 6-12 months. However, our cover will accompany you for many years. We have been using our first food hood set since 2012. In addition, beeswax wraps often don't stick very well to the edge of the bowl, our Food Hoods are very flexible thanks to integrated elastic band and stick perfectly to almost any bowl or plate.
Oh yes, that is what the Food Hoods are made for! The bowl lid is also odourless and easy to clean after use. You can also use our food cover to freeze food or cover them when bringing food to a party, picnic, or BBQ.
The set of 3 consists of three sizes, these have a diameter of about 13, 18, 23cm (when stretched). Our Grande Hood, for larger bowls, such as salad bowls, is approx. 30 cm wide in diameter (when stretched).
With a diameter of about 30cm (when stretched) our large bowl hood is well suited for salad bowls, springforms or even on a casserole dish. A little tip, if you like to bake your own bread: Yeast dough works great under our hood.
Sustainably and fairly produced, our bowl hoods, like all our products, are hand-sewn in German rehabilitation workshops with great attention to detail.
Our food hoods are made of rest and secondhand cotton fabrics. The top side of the hood is made of a cotton fabric printed with various colourful patterns. The underside is made of the patented ProCare, a waterproof, tearproof and food safe barrier fabric. ProCare is free of BPA, lead, sulphates and phthalates and will last for many years. Thanks to their material and reusability, the Food Hoods are a sustainable alternative to cling film or silicone hoods.
ProCare is a waterproof, tearproof and food safe barrier material. It is free of BPA, lead, sulphates and phthalates. It is also manufactured with minimal environmental impact. Procare is characterised by its long durability and can be washed up to 30 degrees, according to Procare. However, we have been washing our hoods at 60 degrees with no problems. It can also be air dried or tumble dried at low temperature, NOT hot dried or ironed.
Our bowl hoods, the "Food Hoods" are a reusable alternative to fresh and aluminium foil. If you have leftover food, you can simply put the Hoods over the bowl with a sewn-in elastic band. Especially practical for open cans or bowls without lids. This keeps your food fresh longer. In addition, our hoods are non odor-permeable, easy to wash and suitable for the refrigerator.
If there are small stains on the bowl hood, it is sufficient to wipe them off or wash them under water with a little soap. The hoods can also be washed in the washing machine, we recommend 30 degrees washing (we wash our hoods at 60 degrees and have had no issues up until now). We hear again and again that washing the hoods in the dishwasher works the same way. According to our experience, this also works well, as long as you take care not to wash any strongly coloured residues such as tomato sauce with the hoods.
